Giovanni Gariboldi (1908-1971) ranks among the most influential figures in the history of Italian decorative arts. He began his career at the age of just 18 when in 1926 he joined Ginori as an apprentice model maker under the guidance of Gio Ponti. Years later amidst a changing, modern, post-war society, Gariboldi took helm of Ginori as Artistic Director. During his time at the Manifattura, Gariboldi embarked on an artistic journey, redrafting the conventions of the art of porcelain in bringing together aesthetics and technique, beauty and practicality, design and daily life. His love of functionality, his firsthand experience in production, and his exacting artistic expression defined a new modernity in the use of porcelain. Through his appreciation for functionality, sincerity of form, and ability to capture the desires of a new modern society, Gariboldi left a legacy as one of the most influential figures in Italian modernism & decorative arts. A prolific artist and creator for over 50 years, Gariboldi launched hundreds of products for Ginori, all with a carefully cultivated eye towards reinterpreting the past and creating for the future.

GIOVANNI GARIBOLDI: A Master of Modernity

The Colonna collection marked 1954 as a pivotal year for Gariboldi. The extraordinary aesthetic integrity with which the collection met the requirements of minimal dimensions and practicality earned it the first Compasso d'Oro, the world's most prestigious design award for enhancing the functionality and artistry of objects of design. Today Colonna makes its return in a limited Re-Edition in three sets for six people (coffee, tea and table) in the original colors and concept, celebrating one of the most important Creatives to have contributed to the worldwide renown of Ginori 1735.

Customized products cannot be returned unless the monogram on the final product differs from the one entered during the order by the customer. Monograms are hand applied using the decalcomania technique. The Monograms have been created by the style office using latin characters (no numbers or special characters are ammitted). The gold and platinum finishes cannot be wash into the dishwasher and into the microwave. Please note that the final rendering of the Monogram and the color may slightly differ from the image shown on the side, which is for illustrative purposes only.
