Le Mie Donne Plate. Donatella decoration. Arte di Gio Ponti Collection.
Le Mie Donne represent the first decorations designed by Gio Ponti that synthesize the classicism of Art Deco in a pleasing balance between the strict lines of architecture and the sinuous forms of female figures. The Donatella decoration depicts a woman lying on fluffy clouds and suspended against a background from which a Renaissance building stands out. True to Ponti's depiction, Le Donne sulle nubi was the first to be designed and presented at the 1923 Monza Exhibition. Each plate is in a numbered series and is entirely hand-painted on majolica. Arte di Gio Ponti is a line of decorative porcelain that tells the story of the Florentine Maison through the most emblematic art objects conceived by Designer Gio Ponti, creative director of the Manifattura from 1923 to 1933.
