MANI BY GIO PONTI
The iconic design piece conceived by the creative genius of Giò Ponti
The shapes of these fully sculpted hands are one of the creations that Gio Ponti devised toward the end of his collaboration with our Manifattura. The celebrated designer had the inspired idea to repurpose some industrial molds for rubber gloves (the gloves were being produced in Doccia at the time) and had the resulting pieces decorated by our artisans applying the most refined techniques in use at the time. The sculptures were then presented as items to embellish home interiors during the Italian Art of the XIXth and XXth Centuries exhibition at the Jeu de Paume in Paris in 1935. Extremely peculiar, but at the same time refined, Gio Ponti's hands brilliantly embody our industrial and especially our artistic spirit, and, to this day, they remain a signature decorative piece by Ginori 1735.
